Another Oscar® Qualifying Award added to Galway Short Film Competition

2020-05-14: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today confirmed that the Galway Film Fleadh has been approved as an Academy qualifying festival for the Documentary Short Subject category.

The documentary that receives the Best Short Documentary award at the Film Fleadh will now be eligible to enter the Documentary Short Oscar® Competition for the concurrent season, provided that the film meets all the requirements set forth in the official rules for that season which can be found at www.oscars.org/rules.

This is the third Oscar® qualifying category to be added to Galway’s Short Film Competition, joining the Live Action and Animation categories, the winners of which automatically qualify for Oscar® consideration without the standard theatrical run.

With the announcement on Monday that the 2020 Film Fleadh will be an online edition, the deadline for submissions to the Short Film Competition this year has been extended to Friday May 22nd at 5pm GMT, to allow hopeful filmmakers as much time as possible a chance to compete for these Oscar® qualifying accolades. Filmmakers can submit their short film to the festival by clicking here.

The 32nd Galway Film Fleadh takes place online from July 7th 2020 at gff2020.wpengine.com.
