Galway Film Fleadh, including Galway Film Fair & Galway Generation Fleadh, understands that presenting a large-scale international festival comes with a carbon footprint. We are committed to delivering a high-quality international film event that reflects responsibility towards people, the environment, and long-term economic value. We actively find ways to reduce negative impact, spread as much awareness as we can and drive positive change, while also showcasing the best cinema from around the world.

We work systematically to integrate sustainability across all aspects of our operations, from programming and partnerships to logistics and communication. Our ambition is not only to reduce our own impact, but also to inspire filmmakers, industry professionals and audiences to act more sustainably.

Environmental Sustainability
Galway Film Fair works actively to reduce its environmental footprint by:

  • Minimising energy use across venues and operations
  • Promoting sustainable travel, including public transport, walking and shared mobility
  • Reducing waste and increasing recycling and reuse
  • Prioritising digital solutions over physical materials
  • Collaborating with venues and partners to ensure efficient energy use and responsible resource management
  • Prioritising local suppliers and reducing single-use materials
Social Sustainability
Galway Film Fair is committed to creating a positive and inclusive environment by:
  • Ensuring the event is safe, accessible and welcoming for all participants
  • Promoting diversity and inclusion in programming and participation
  • Providing a platform for voices and stories that highlight environmental and social issues
  • Engaging staff, partners and audiences to build awareness and encourage responsible behaviour
  • Fostering a shared commitment to sustainability across all stakeholders
Economic Sustainability
Galway Film Fleadh strives to operate responsibly and contribute to long-term value by:
  • Supporting the local economy through collaboration with local suppliers and partners
  • Using resources efficiently to ensure cost-effectiveness
  • Balancing quality with financial responsibility
  • Creating long-term value that supports the continued growth and resilience of the Fair

Sustainability is an ongoing journey. Galway Film Fleadh continuously evaluates its impact, sets targets for improvement, and works to strengthen its performance over time.

#BootTheBottle

We encourage you to bring your own keep-cups or reusable water bottles to minimise waste and to prevent unnecessary single-use plastic waste. We sell sustainable glass water bottles in our venues during the week of the Fleadh.

Please see refill.ie for a TAP MAP of all areas in Galway where you can refill your water.
