“The Fleadh has become an important International co-production hub. That is one reason why Galway’s co-production market, the Film Fair, has become such a key networking event” – Screen International

The Marketplace at the Galway Film Fair, the industry arm of the Galway Film Fleadh, mirrors the festival’s uniquely intimate, informal and accessible atmosphere to act as a key industry networking event on the international Film Calendar and a launchpad for projects at various stages of development through its vibrant marketplace. This year saw over 700 pre-scheduled one on one meetings between filmmakers and International Sales Agents, Distributors, Broadcasters, Film Funds, Talent Agents and major producers, as well as hosting Networking Meetings with Netflix and Mubi amongst others. 2022’s Marketplace received an unprecedented number of applications with companies and producers attending from: Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Greece, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Bulgaria, Serbia, Latvia, Ukraine, Slovenia, Romania, Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, USA, Canada and UK. Over 60 invited European and International decision makers attended including: Autlook Filmsales GmbH, Bankside FIlms, BBC Films, Coccinelle Film Sales, EastWest Filmdistribution, Elle Driver, Film Fund Luxembourg, Film4, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Killer Films, Lionsgate, Myriad Pictures, Neon, New Europe Film Sales, RTÉ, Sky Cinema, Studiocanal, Sundance Film Festival, The Party Sales, Tribeca Film Festival, Umedia, XYZ Films and much more.

We were delighted to once again partner with Bankside Films on an award for the best project at the marketplace. The award, a cash prize of €3,000 to go towards the development of the project, was awarded to Shoal by Clare Strong – Director and Jeanie Igoe – Producer.

On the award, Stephen Kelliher, Director at Bankside Films says:

“We are delighted to be supporting the Marketplace Project Award at the Galway Film Fair. We have seen real and quantifiable results from many years of attending the Film Fair and we hope that this award will be instrumental in helping others bring their creative visions to the big screen.”

The Galway Film Fair’s unique selling points:
  • Transatlantic Bridge
  • Intimate and informal atmosphere
  • Privileged access to the world’s leading financiers
  •  Showcasing new European and International cinema to leading Film Buyers, Distributors and Festival Programmers
Alongside the Marketplace many other industry events take place at the Galway Film Fair including conferences, seminars, masterclasses, debates, workshops and much more.
“I attend the Fleadh regularly because I’m always finding a new filmmaker, project or producer that shows real promise to deliver on the international stage. It’s an extraordinarily useful, efficient platform to help identify what’s coming down the road and it’s a bridge for us to the greater European film community, especially those talents who have yet to be recognised.” – Eamonn Bowles, Magnolia Pictures
