With one week to go before the launch of the 35th edition of the  Fleadh, we are announcing two more films from our Music strand – Love Without Walls and Louder Than You Think.

UK drama, Love Without Walls winner of ‘Best UK Feature’ awards at both Manchester Film Festival and London Independent Film Festival stars Niall McNamee & Shana Swash in a story about a couple who face the harsh realities of life on the streets after they fall behind on their rent. Despite their struggles, their shared love for music gives them the strength to carry on.

Their story is a powerful testament to the transformative power of music and the human spirit, inspiring us to believe that anything is possible with perseverance, love, and a little bit of music. Love Without Walls  is produced by Karen Newman, best known for Just Charlie, winner of the Audience Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and is directed and written by Jane Gull, director of My Feral Heart. The films original music is primarily written and performed by singer/songwriter and lead actor, Niall McNamee.

The Irish Premiere of Love Without Walls takes place on Wednesday 12th July at 7pm at the Town Hall Theatre. A post-show discussion with Niall McNamee, Jane Gull and Karen Newman will follow the screening.

If you are a PAVEMENT fan, you won’t want to miss documentary, Louder Than You Think. Winner of the SXSW 2023 Audience Award for the 24 Beats Per Second screening section, this is an up-close cinematic walkabout through the life of Gary Young, the original (and highly unlikely) drummer of indie rock royalty Pavement. His booze and drugs-fuelled antics (on-stage handstands, gifting vegetables to fans) and haphazard production methods (accidentally helping launch the lo-fi aesthetic) were both a driving force of the band’s early rise and the cause of his eventual crash landing. Leaving a wake of joy and/or destruction at every turn, Gary teeters the thin line between free-form self-expression and chaotic self-destruction. 30 years on with scoliosis, blood clots, and a shrivelled liver, Gary is still drumming with no regrets.

The European premiere of Louder Than You Think will take place on 12th July, at 10pm at the Town Hall Theatre. A post-show discussion with Producer Brian Thalken and Cinematographer Dan O’Connell will follow the screening.

We are immensely proud of our Music On Film strand which features some of the greatest musicians currently performing. The documentary we announce today goes behind the scenes providing an up close and personal insight into the lives of musicians on the road while our music narrative drama is a love story that endures through the toughest of times” said Maeve McGrath, Director of Programming at the Galway Film Fleadh.

Full programme details will be announced on Tuesday June 27th with hundreds of events including screenings, Q+A’s and filmmaker interviews, panel discussions, and more.
