Galway Film Fleadh and Short Circuit Scotland are teaming up to present a touring programme of five short fiction films from Scotland, combined with the five Award winning Irish shorts from the 2020 Film Fleadh – together highlighting the exciting diversity and wealth of talent that Scottish & Irish emerging filmmakers have to offer. All shorts are available to stream on the Galway Film Fleadh website from January 24th – 28th.

In the Scottish programme, take a trip with Miles and Stanley in rural Scotland to a 4th encounter in UFO; plunge back to the 80s for a metal journey to hell in Satanic Panic ‘87; experience a Boys Night in North East Glasgow; join a brave warrior queen as she shows ‘The Man’ who’s boss in Slingshot; and learn to “take the shite with the good sometimes” in Salt & Sauce.

Co-presented with the eclectic Scottish line-up, rediscover the award-winning Irish shorts from the 32nd Film Fleadh by roaming through a mystical animated world with TOT; witness a romance bloom amid the backdrop of COVID-19 in How to Fall in Love in a Pandemic; escape with a man who builds the means to leave his grief behind in Ballast; watch a troubled fisherman confront his past in The Invisible Boy; and delight in a Faustian pact made with magical gloves in The Dead Hands of Dublin.

The five-day film tour will culminate with an online conversation on Thursday 28th January at 2pm with some of the Scottish & Irish filmmakers, discussing filmmaking in Scotland & Ireland respectively, the role of place and identity in their shorts, their ongoing touring and awards campaigns, as well as answering questions from viewers.

Short Circuit is a new film talent initiative for Scotland delivered by Film City Futures in partnership with Glasgow Film, and supported by Screen Scotland and BFI NETWORK (using funds from the National Lottery). As a key hub for emerging fiction filmmaking talent in Scotland, their goal is to support writers, directors and producers to develop creatively and professionally.

The Galway Film Fleadh is an Oscar® accredited film festival for short film, and three of the 2020 Galway winning shorts are being considered for the 2021 Academy Awards this April. Short film submissions for the 2021 Film Fleadh will open on February 8th. The Galway Film Fleadh is funded by The Arts Council.
