In the heart of a struggling Newfoundland neighbourhood, known as “The Courts”, unfolds an unlikely friendship between Billy Skinner, Newfoundland tough guy, and Mohamed Thome, a recently immigrated Syrian refugee navigating the challenges of a new life for his young family. Haunted by a criminal past, Billy finds himself a fish out of water in a neighbourhood vastly different from the one he left behind – a place where Syrian immigrants like Mo are working hard to create a sense of belonging.

As Billy attempts to reform his life, he crosses paths with Mo. Both facing societal prejudices and personal struggles, Billy and Mo come together to uplift themselves, and the community around them.
