Irish premiere of Award-Winning film, CHRISTY and the World Premiere of TRAD announced for the Galway Film Fleadh 2025
The 37th Galway Film Fleadh will host the World Premiere of TRAD, written and directed by Lance Daly (Kisses, Black ’47). The film follows gifted fiddle player Shona McAnally and her young brother Mickey as they leave their home in the Donegal Gaeltacht and take to the road with a troupe of wandering musicians, on a cross-country journey of adventure, romance and musical exploration. The cast includes Sarah Greene, Peter Coonan, Aidan Gillen, Ann Skelly and features new talents, Megan NicFhionnghaile and Cathal Coade Palmer. TRAD will premiere on the 11th of July at 8:15pm at the Town Hall Theatre.
After winning the Grand Prix of the Generation 14plus International Jury at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, CHRISTY will have its Irish premiere at the Fleadh. Directed by Brendan Canty in his feature debut, CHRISTY follows 17-year-old Christy who is at a crossroads. Kicked out of his suburban foster home, he moves in with his estranged older brother Shane and his young family. As Christy makes friends and begins to let the community in, he also reconnects with his past through his seemingly more corrupting extended family. As the brothers look to reconcile their turbulent past, their family and the community around them offer hope for Christy’s future. The cast includes Danny Power, Diarmuid Noyes, Emma Willis, Alison Oliver, Chris Walley and Helen Behan and features members of Cork’s Kabin Studio. CHRISTY will premiere on the 11th of July at 6pm at the Town Hall Theatre.
The full Galway Film Fleadh programme will be announced on June 24th with hundreds of events including screenings, Q+A’s and filmmaker interviews, panel discussions, and more.
