Work in Progress – ANAM NA MARA Showcase
Sat 11 July | 09:30 – 10.00 | Veranda Lounge, Galmont Hotel
Galway Film Fleadh presents its inaugural Rough-Cut Showcase with Anam Na Mara, a feature documentary currently in post-production from acclaimed Irish director Gavin FitzGerald and the award-winning team at Venom Films.
Set against the wild Atlantic coast of Connemara, Anam Na Mara takes audiences into the fiercely competitive world of currach racing, following an Irish-speaking community whose members are rowing for far more than medals and bragging rights. Through a season of triumphs and setbacks, the film explores a tradition that stretches back generations and what it means to protect culture, identity and a sense of belonging in a rapidly changing world. A sporting drama of quiet significance, it examines masculinity across generations and the enduring rhythm of life by the sea.
This special industry event will offer an exclusive first look at selected scenes from the film, followed by a presentation from the filmmakers about the project’s development, production and journey towards completion.
Created specifically for festival programmers, sales agents, distributors, broadcasters and exhibitors, the Rough-Cut Showcase is designed to introduce exciting new Irish work at a key stage in its development and to support its path towards international audiences.
As the first event of its kind at Galway Film Fleadh, Anam Na Mara is a fitting project to launch the initiative. Deeply rooted in the communities, language and sporting traditions of the west of Ireland, it offers a cinematic portrait of a world rarely seen on screen.
The filmmaker’s welcome industry guests interested in future festival, sales, distribution and exhibition opportunities.
