The feel-good documentary of the year, Oisín Mistéil’s debut film, Try!, follows four Irish rugby players who defy all expectations on their journey to the most inclusive and competitive World Cup you’ve never seen. Mixed ability rugby is 15-a-side, full contact rugby played by people with and without disabilities, all with a dream of lifting the trophy at the Mixed Abilities Rugby World Cup in Spain, where 32 teams compete to be the best in the world. Mistéil approaches the subject with heart and humour, and a camera that feels like part of the team. Try! is a powerful celebration of the power of sport in creating community for those who never belonged before, and leaves the viewer with a true sense that inclusion is a positive thing and creating change can be joyous, freeing and fun, challenging ideas about what teamwork looks like and celebrating strength in diversity.
