The Business of Big Laughs: Developing and Producing Hit TV Series
Sat 11 July | 16:00 – 17:00 | Veranda Lounge, Galmont Hotel
Comedy remains one of the most sought-after genres in television, yet it is also one of the most difficult to get right. What does it take to develop a comedy that can attract commissioners, build loyal audiences and sustain multiple seasons in an increasingly competitive market?
This Galway Film Fair conversation brings together three highly experienced comedy creators and producers working across the UK, Ireland and North America. Andrew Barnsley (Schitt’s Creek), Noah Findling (Platonic) and Peter Foott (The Young Offenders) will discuss the creative and commercial realities of developing successful comedy series, from finding a distinctive voice and building memorable characters to navigating broadcasters, streamers, financing partners and international audiences.
The discussion will explore how comedy projects are packaged and positioned in today’s marketplace, the role of the writer and producer in shaping a show’s identity, and how authentic, locally rooted stories can travel globally.
Featuring:
- Andrew Barnsley – Executive Producer of Schitt’s Creek and Son of a Critch
- Noah Findling – Writer of Apple TV+’s Platonic and Director of Special Boy
- Peter Foott – Creator, Writer & Producer, The Young Offenders
