Zamo Mkhwanazi’s vibrant Laundry is set in 1960s apartheid Johannesburg. Khuthala, a gifted young jazz musician, wants nothing to do with his family’s laundry business and dreams of a life shaped by music, not soap and steam. When the government begins cracking down on Black-owned businesses, and Khuthala’s father is arrested and brutally beaten, the musical dream begins to collapse as he must step up and protect the family, and their only source of income.
