Ondřej Provazník’s powerful Broken Voices is a sensitive exploration of institutional abuse. In early 1990s Prague, 13-year-old Karolína earns a place in a prestigious and world-renowned girls’ choir, joining her older sister and other talented young singers. She is flattered to catch the attention of the respected and enigmatic choirmaster, until the unsettling price of that privilege becomes frighteningly clear. Inspired by true events, the film explores the fragile line where innocence collides with abusive power.
