Volunteer For Generation FLeadh

Junior Fleadh is changing.    

 After consultation with young people and our Youth Council, our film programme for young people will now be known as GENERATION FLEADH.  

Bringing film culture to young people across Galway City and County, GENERATION FLEADH comprises a 5-day event with film screenings and an educational film programme in November, an annual outreach programme in Galway city and county, collaborations with festivals and events including the EFA, all informed by the youth voice through the Generation Fleadh Youth Council and Youth review Panels.   

The aim of Generation Fleadh is to provide film screenings, workshops/ panel discussions alongside the young critics panel, Generation Fleadh Film Club and Generation Fleadh Youth Council and to promote film culture to young people providing a platform for them to meet like-minded people, celebrating cinema culture in Galway.   

Generation Fleadh promotes film culture through school screenings with foreign language and Irish language films including narrative, animation and documentaries alongside short films made by young people for young people. Additionally, Generation Fleadh hosts workshops (both during the festival and at times throughout the year) led by professionals in various aspects of filmmaking.  

The Generation Fleadh Youth Council (made up of young adults attending secondary school in Galway) engage with the Generation Fleadh team to ensure all aspects of programming remain relevant to young adults interested in film culture.  

Additionally, we offer young people the opportunity to take part as follows:  

  • Generation Jury – (July – part of Galway Film Fleadh) age 16-18 years  
  • European Film Academy Young Audience Award Jury (November)   
  • Generation Film Club– Watch European films online and take part in Young Audience Film Weekend.  
  • Ambassador roles for young people to advise on decision making and to participate on the Generation Fleadh Youth Council.  

Generation Fleadh will participate in the Young Audience Film Weekend on November 5th and the Generation Fleadh, 5-day event will take place from 13-16 November 2024 with full programme to follow soon.
