Job Overview: 

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable  Short Film Programmer  to curate and coordinate our short film selection for the upcoming Galway Film Fleadh. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for emerging talent, a deep understanding and passion of short films with 3+ years of experience in film curation or festival programming.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curate the short film programme, ensuring a diverse and high-quality selection of Irish and International shorts.
  • Review and assess short film submissions based on artistic merit, storytelling, technical execution, and audience engagement.
  • Coordinate programming logistics, including short film screeners, scheduling, film formats, and liaising with copy editor, projection and technical teams.
  • Liaise with filmmakers, distributors, and industry stakeholders to secure rights and permissions for selected films.
  • Work with the Director of Programming, short film team and wider Fleadh team to ensure a cohesive and dynamic festival line-up.
  • Where needed, assist in panel discussions, introductions, Q&As, and networking events to foster filmmaker engagement.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to promote the short film programme through press, social media, and festival communications.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Over three years’ experience in film festival programming, short film curation, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for Irish and International Short Film
  • Deep understanding of industry trends, the Irish film landscape and festival circuit.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage their own time and multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

 

Desirable:

  • A passion for support and work with new and emerging filmmakers.
  • Familiarity with film submission platforms (e.g., FilmFreeway, Eventival).
  • Experience working with international filmmakers, distributors and film organisations.
  • Previous experience hosting or moderating industry discussions.
  • Experience working with exhibition and project teams in a festival or cinema setting.
