Europa Film Festivals Appoints Galway as President
Europa Film Festivals (EFF), the European network of leading film festivals, has appointed William Fitzgerald, Director of Galway Film Fair, as its new President. The appointment was announced by outgoing President and EFF co-founder Alexis Juncosa.
Fitzgerald succeeds Juncosa at a pivotal time for the network, which brings together film festivals from across Europe to strengthen collaboration, champion independent cinema, and address shared industry challenges. Fitzgerald is Director of Galway Film Fair, the industry market of Galway Film Fleadh. He previously served in a number of senior roles within the festival, including Head of Programming, and has played a key role in developing its international partnerships and industry initiatives.
Under Fitzgerald’s leadership, EFF will focus on deepening cooperation between member festivals, strengthening advocacy for the sector, and responding to evolving industry and funding landscapes.
Announcing the appointment, Alexis Juncosa said:
“William’s career, his commitment to European cinema, and his leadership within Galway Film Fair make him the ideal person to guide Europa Film Festivals into its next chapter.”
Fitzgerald commented:
“It is a privilege to take on the presidency of Europa Film Festivals. I look forward to building on the network’s achievements to date, strengthening relationships between our member festivals, and ensuring festivals continue to play a vital role in supporting filmmakers and audiences across Europe.”
Europa Film Festivals brings together festivals from Ireland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Finland and Iceland. Among its key initiatives are the #LoveFilmLoveFestivals campaign, the Memorandum of Understanding with Europa International, and the Peripheral Visions European Cinema competition, developed in partnership with Galway Film Fleadh.
