Actors Masterclass

The 38th Galway Film Fleadh is delighted to announce that acclaimed actor, playwright, and director Rory Kinnear will be the subject of this year’s Actors Masterclass, proudly supported by Screen Ireland.

Taking place on Saturday, 11 July this exclusive event offers audiences a unique opportunity to hear from one of Britain’s most celebrated and versatile performers, whose remarkable career spans film, television, theatre, writing, and directing. 

The masterclass will be facilitated by renowned Irish casting director Maureen Hughes, one of Ireland’s most respected industry figures. With decades of experience casting award-winning film, television, and theatre productions, Maureen will lead an in-depth conversation exploring Kinnear’s creative process, career journey, and approach to performance. 

Kinnear has established himself as one of the most respected actors of his generation. His acclaimed film work includes Alex Garland’s Men, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and earned him a BIFA nomination, alongside The Imitation Game, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Peterloo, Bank of Dave, and the BIFA Award-winning Broken. He is also known to audiences worldwide as Bill Tanner in the James Bond films Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. 

His extensive television credits include The Diplomat, The Rings of Power, Black Mirror, Years and Years, Penny Dreadful, Brexit, Southcliffe, Ridley Road, and Say Nothing, showcasing an extraordinary range across drama, fantasy, historical storytelling, and contemporary television. 

Kinnear is equally renowned for his stage work, having received multiple Olivier Awards and Evening Standard Theatre Awards for performances in productions including Hamlet, Othello, Measure for Measure, and The Man of Mode. His contribution to British theatre has firmly established him as one of the leading actors of his generation. 

Beyond acting, Kinnear is an award-winning playwright and director. His debut play, The Herd, premiered to widespread acclaim, while his directorial debut came with the English National Opera’s production of The Winter’s Tale. 

During this special three-hour masterclass, Kinnear will discuss his approach to performance, character development, and storytelling across screen and stage. Drawing on decades of experience working with some of the world’s most respected filmmakers, writers, directors, and theatre companies, he will offer invaluable insights into the craft of acting, sustaining a creative career, and navigating today’s evolving film and television industry.
