“Pope Alexander VIII once described her as ‘a queen without a realm, a Christian without faith, and a woman without shame’. Kristina of Sweden was undoubtedly one of the most remarkable women of her era.”
The Girl King is a portrait of the brilliant, extravagant Kristina of Sweden, queen from age six, who fights the conservative forces that are against her ideas for the modernization of Sweden, and who have no tolerance for her awakening sexuality. She must choose between her country, her father, her religion, and “who she wants to be.” She chooses to take control of her destiny.
