29th Galway Film Fleadh 11th – 16th July 2017
“The best Irish entertainer I’ve seen to date”
– Simon McDonagh, TheThinAir.net
Steven Sharpe & The Broke Straight Boys are undoubtedly one of Galway’s best kept secrets. The band have been performing their own brand of out’n’proud music around Ireland for the past 3 years and have made quite a name for themselves with their electric live shows. Steven has a veracious, witty, and soulful style which blends music, humour and storytelling.
Sharpe has an eclectic mix of influences such as r&b, folk, rock, spoken word, blues/soul, musical theatre, and a number of avant-garde and alternative artists, all of which is clear in his unique approach to music and performance. “The Broke Straight Boys” includes the talents of David Shaughnessy on drums, Shane O’Malley on bass, and folk/blues musician Dylan Murphy on lead guitar.
On the 5th of May 2017 they released their debut album “Shut Up Dylan”. Recorded at Willow Sea Studios in Galway, and in association with Galway based independent label “Citóg Records”, the album captures their live sound and Steven’s knack for storytelling. The record features crowd favourites such as “WORK!” “All Men Are Bastards” and “Who’s The Man?” plus many more.
