Do you know the connection between feminist film theory and iconic 80s TV series Cagney & Lacey? According to producer Barney Rosenzweig, his then-girlfriend, Barbara Corday, recommended to him the seminal film text From Reverence to Rape, by film critic Molly Haskell. After learning through Haskell that there had never been a female buddy film, Rosenzweig sought to make one. Corday & Barbara Avedon wrote the script but no studio wanted to make the film, so Corday took it to television and so Cagney & Lacey was born!
Galway Film Fleadh is proud to welcome Tyne Daly to Galway to re-visit this barrier-breaking series and discuss her career, including playing Mary-Beth Lacey, one half of the eponymous, feminist duo.
After the discussion there will be a screening of the classic Cagney & Lacey two-parter, “Turn, Turn, Turn”.
