29th Galway Film Fleadh 11th – 16th July 2017
“A remarkable portrait of sexologist Michalina Wislocka whose book started a lifestyle revolution in Polish society but faced condemnation by the communist party, the Catholic Church and the censors.”
The Art of Loving follows the life of Michalina Wisłocka, a doctor who did the impossible: opened the door to Polish people’s bedrooms. Disposing of conservative stereotypes and pervasive ignorance, Wisłocka revolutionised the sexual life of the whole country in the middle of the communist regime. And she did it all through a book called The Art of Loving. Spanning over 30 years, the film tells a story of a brave, independent and unconventional woman who wanted to teach people that the most important thing in a relationship is understanding and exploring each other’s needs, not only in the bedroom.
