The GENERATION Fleadh Council engages with the GENERATION Fleadh team to ensure all aspects of programming remain relevant to young adults interested in film culture.
Meet the 2024 GENERATION Fleadh Ambassador:
Rua McKree
Rua is a 14-year-old student living in Galway City. His interests include mycology, pencil sketch drawing, zoological osteology, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, hiking, film studies, and singing aloud very loudly to his favorite bands. A few of his best-loved films are The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Amadeus, My Neighbor Totoro, The Princess Bride, and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Having loved his experience as a Generation Fleadh Youth Ambassador in 2023, Rua is excited to return for another year of resuming this title.
Meet the 2024 Council Members:
Cleo McKeon Burke
Cleo McKeon Burke is a 24-year-old event photographer and film director from Galway city. She has experience producing films and working in the camera department. She recently graduated from TUS in Limerick, with a Bachelor of Science in Creative Broadcast & Film Production, where she made her first feature documentary ‘Take Up Space’ as her final year project. She has volunteered with the Galway Film Fleadh for the past 4 years and is excited to be part of GENERATION Fleadh.
Caoimhín Hynes
Caoimhín is a 16-year-old student going into fifth year at Galway Educate Together Secondary School. His hobbies include photography, reading, and drawing. He enjoys watching many different types of films, but his favourite director is Wes Anderson.
Eabha Leech
Éabha Leech will graduate this summer with a BA in Film and Digital Media from the University of Galway. Over the past four years, she has gained extensive experience at Galway Bay FM radio station, starting as a receptionist and expanding her roles to include marketing and promotions. Éabha also serves as a stand-in presenter for the On The Move and The Nightfly shows, in addition to working as a studio engineer.
Lillian Murray
Lillian is a Leaving Cert student in Galway. A self-proclaimed practical effects enthusiast, she spends her free time watching films of all genres, from campy horror movies to emotional dramas. She was recently on the Generation Jury for the 2024 Galway Film Fleadh
Myrsini Maliogka
Myrsini is a 20-year-old student from Greece currently attending the University of Galway. As she enters her second year of studying film, she continues to be deeply passionate about cinema. Myrsini’s loves realism in film and their ability to portray life authentically and intimately while not shying away from life’s raw and intimate experiences.
Molly Qualter
Molly Qualter is an Irish feminist filmmaker. She has created experimental, dramatic, and documentary short films, writes reviews for various film platforms, and is a programmer for LUMI at Queens Film Theatre. Her dissertation, “Silenced Voices: Uncovering the Erasure of the First Female Filmmakers from Hollywood and Film History,” reflects her obsession with the female pioneers of cinema whose careers have been largely overlooked by historians. This work has propelled her to curate events showcasing these trailblazing women and to speak on panels, furthering the recognition of their contributions to film.
Pia Kirby Roycroft
Pia Roycroft is a filmmaker and film critic, having published reviews for Film Ireland and many Irish festivals. With a particular interest in horror and sci-fi, they are particularly fond of directors like John Carpenter and Johnathan Demme, however their favourite film is a split decision between Men in Black and Men in Black 3. Pia is also a host of the Young Irish Filmmaker’s Young Critics Podcast and recently graduated from University College Cork.
Zach Ó Maonagrian
Zach is a 20-year-old film lover and student from Galway. As a dedicated writer and filmmaker, he has created numerous short films which have screened at festivals across Ireland. Zach’s passion for storytelling and filmmaking drives his creative pursuits and academic endeavors. Zach is currently pursuing a degree in film at University of Galway.
