On Sunday, 12th July the 27th Galway Film Fleadh came to a close, following another outstanding year of Irish and international film premieres, screenings, workshops and discussions. The annual awards ceremony took place after the Fleadh’s annual Public Interview, in which renowned character actor John C. Reilly regaled a packed Town Hall Theatre.

 

 

GALWAY HOOKER AWARDS:

Pete Docter + Jonas Rivera

The Pixar director and producer received their award on Saturday after their well received animation masterclass.

 

Mohsen Makhmalbaf

The Iranian auteur took part in a public interview of his own on Saturday afternoon and presented the Irish premiere of his new film The President on Thursday.

 

 

Mícheál Ó Meallaigh

TG4’s commissioning director also took part in a public discussion covering his career in the Irish audio-visual industry.

Oscar qualifying Categories:  Since 2011 the Fleadh has been recognised as a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards Short Film Category. Recipients of the James Horgan Award for Best Animation and Tiernan MacBride Award for Best Short Drama will qualify for consideration.
