We are delighted to welcome acclaimed character actor and hilarious comic lead, John C. Reilly, to Galway. Best known for headlining comedies like Stepbrothers and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and for scene-stealing in films such as Boogie Nights and Magnolia, as well as earning an Oscar® nomination for Chicago, Reilly will be the subject of this year’s Public Interview on Sunday 12th July at 3pm.
Character Actor. Comic Foil. Internet Sensation. Over a career spanning 26 years and more than 70 performances, John C. Reilly’s star rose steadily through the silver age of indy cinema in the 90’s, to become one of the most sought after dramatic and comic leads of today. He made his debut in Brian De Palma’s Casualties of War in 1989 where the director was so impressed during early filming that he re-cast Reilly in a bigger role. He has worked with directors such as Paul Thomas Anderson in films like Hard Eight and Magnolia and Terence Malick in The Thin Red Line. In 2002, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Chicago which, along with The Hours and Gangs of New York, all starring Reilly, were nominated for Best Picture that year. All of this critical acclaim has not distinguished Reilly from becoming a household name for his broad range of performances in smash-hit comedies (Anchorman 2), imaginative family films (Wreck-It Ralph), viral internet sketches (Prop 8: The Musical) and comic book blockbusters (Guardians of the Galaxy).
The Public Interview will be hosted by Seán Rocks, from RTÉ One’s Arena, in the Town Hall Theatre on Sunday 12th July at 3pm, before a screening of the cult comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
