VOLKER SCHLÖNDORFF DIRECTORS’ MASTERCLASS

The Galway Film Fleadh/Galway Film Centre in association with FAS Screen Training Ireland are proud to present the 2007 Directors’ Masterclass with legendary German New Wave director Volker Schlöndorff.

Volker Schlöndorff is renowned for his cinematic adaptation of major literary works, his direction credits include THE TIN DRUM (1978), which won the 1979 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film and the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Amongst his numerous other direction credits are STRIKE (2006), THE NINTH DAY (2004), ULZHAN (2007), THE LOST HONOR OF KATHARINA BLUM (1975), SWANN IN LOVE (1984), which was nominated for two BAFTA awards and won two César Awards, France.

Topics covered in the Masterclass will include the following:

  • Casting and auditioning
  • Planning the rehearsal
  • Improvisation in rehearsal
  • Directing emotionally big scenes

Admission to the masterclass is by application only.  This masterclass would be suitable for participants who are pursuing a directing career for film and television. Places are limited and participants will be notified if they have been allocated a place.

TERRY GEORGE SCREENWRITERS' MASTERCLASS

The Galway Film Fleadh/Galway Film Centre in association with Northern Ireland Screen, are proud to present the 2007 Screenwriters Masterclass with acclaimed screenwriter Terry George.

Terry George is one of Ireland’s successful screenwriters whose work includes HOTEL RWANDA (2004), IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER (1993) both of which were nominated for BAFTA and Academy Awards. SOME MOTHER’S SON (1996) received the Felix Best Young European Film Award. Other credits include HART’S WAR (2002) and A BRIGHT SHINING LIE (1998) and THE BOXER (1997), which he co-wrote with Jim Sheridan.  He is co-creator and executive producer of the American prime time drama series The District.

This half day masterclass will look at:

  • Writing for TV
  • Characterisation
  • Plot
  • Structure
  • Dialogue

Admission to the masterclass is by application only.  This masterclass would be suitable for participants who are pursuing a career in writing for film and television. Places are limited and participants will be notified if they have been allocated a place.

JEREMY IRONS ACTORS’ MASTERCLASS

The Galway Film Fleadh/Galway Film Centre in association with FAS Screen Training Ireland are delighted to present the 2007 Actors’ Masterclass with Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons.

Jeremy Irons acting credits include REVERSAL OF FORTUNE (1990) for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor, DEAD RINGERS (1988), which earned him the New York Critics’ Best Actor Award, he was nominated for a BAFTA for THE FRENCH LIEUTENANT’S WOMAN (1981).  Other film credits include Lolita (1997), THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK (1998) and DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE (1995), THE MISSION (1984), SWANN IN LOVE (1984) and STEALING BEAUTY (1996).

During this Masterclass, Jeremy Irons will explore the practical aspects of establishing and developing an actor’s career in the international film and television industry.

The Masterclass will cover the following:

  • Starting out as an actor
  • Dealing with casting directors
  • Securing an agent
  • Preparing for an audition
  • Working on set
  • Relationship with the director
  • Relationship with the crew
