“Like Jim Jarmusch and Henry David Thoureau conspiring to remake Evil Dead, Indie wunderkind Joel Potrykus’ latest is a delightfully strange beast.”

Hardly a conventional horror movie, this unclassifiable miniature involving a man in a trailer in the woods trying to contact the Dark Lord is funny and distinctive. It’s certain to expand Michigan auteur Joel Potrykus’  audience beyond his more reality-tethered black comedy Buzzard.

Suffering from delusions of fortune, a young hermit hides out in the forest hoping to crack an ancient mystery, but pays a price for his mania.

While The Alchemist Cookbook certainly won’t be for everyone, it will surely delight and surprise those who can grok its idiosyncratic content.
