Independent Film:
Sunset or New Dawn?
10.30 – 13.00 |
Dox On The Lough – The Return
14.30 – 16.00 |
Consideration will be given to the withdrawal of broadcasters,
distributors and sales agents from providing production finance,
and the almost total dependence of independent films on various
forms of subsidy. Has the credit crisis rendered this tendency
irreversible? Or can the new distribution platforms offer new
streams of revenue and if so, how soon? Will online distribution
afford opportunities for a greater diversity of films to find
audiences, or will the dominance of a handful of multinational
companies merely be compounded? |
Following up last year’s debate on theatrical documentaries,
this year’s session will look at trends in the market – positive
and negative – for creative, non-fiction work for the big screen,
with contributions from filmmakers and financiers prominent in
the field. The debates will be chaired by Simon Perry (morning)
and Alan Maher (afternoon) of Bord Scannán na hÉireann/
the Irish Film Board. |
